Join us in our heartfelt congratulations to Maureen Klenk, the 2014 Heather Keith Award Recipient. Maureen has been a nurse since 1982 and completed her Masters of Health Sciences and Diploma of Advanced Nursing Practice from Athabasca University in 2000. She was the first licensed NP in Saskatchewan!!

Maureen has provided nursing services in Pelican Narrows, SK and Arviat, Nunavut. She worked with the SRNA to develop infrastructure for nurse practitioner regulation and is currently employed with the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology – Nursing Division as faculty for the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

Political activism is Maureen’s first love and she has worked tirelessly to advance the profile of NPs and advanced practice nursing within our province and in Canada through her involvement in the SRNA, NPOS, SANP and Canadian Association of Advanced Practice Nurses (CAAPN). Maureen is the current president of the CAAPN and has been the president of the NPOS and founding member of the SANP.

Maureen sits on the Stewardship Committee for Primary Health Care Redesign for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, and is an active member of the Ministry of Health ad hoc committee on recognition of NP work in the community. She has a long history of service on committees, is committed to the development of Healthy Public Policy and she has authored many publications outlining, promoting and developing NP and advanced nursing practice.

Thank-you Maureen and we were happy to have your husband Don and your two daughters Emily and Katelyn with us to help celebrate your award.
